2018 Honoree: Annie Kennedy

CLAYTON JACKSON MCGHIE MEMORIAL, INC. SELECTS ANNIE KENNEDY AS 2018 GALA HONOREE

Duluth, MN – March 18, 2018- Clayton Jackson McGhie Memorial, Inc. holds its eleventh annual dinner Saturday March 24, 2018, 6:00pm – 9:00pm at Greysolon Ballroom. Doors open at 5:30pm. Please join us in celebrating this year’s honoree, Annie Kennedy.

Annie Tucker Kennedy is a woman of strong faith and persistence whose caring and friendly voice has touched many in our community for decades, both as a volunteer and a committed worker toward health and wellness. She moved to Duluth in 1965 armed with a Mississippi eighth grade education and a keen understanding of hard work. She soon joined St. Mark’s AME Church and became an integral force there as its missionary president, preaching every fifth Sunday, mentoring youth and opening Robbie’s Closet for children in need. Every year on the first Saturday in May, she has hosted a fashion show in its support.

In the mid-1980s, Mrs. Kennedy graduated from the College of St. Scholastica, an accomplishment that was hard-won and serves as an inspiration to others. She has also been a member of the Health and Wellness Table and the League of Women Voters. Now retired, she has continued to do what she can for the community as a mentor and friend.

“Mrs. Kennedy was chosen as CJMM Inc.’s 2018 honoree because her principles adhere to racial reconciliation. Her devotion to human dignity, higher education and healthy community contribution are core values of the CJM mission statement,” says board member Treasure Jenkins.

Few seats are left, but we still need donations for our various projects, including the scholarship, the drivers’ education grants, our general volunteer operations and the upcoming Duluth delegation to Montgomery AL.
