Ruby Nancy is an Assistant Professor of Business Communication in the Labovitz School of Business and Economics at University of Minnesota Duluth. She chairs LSBE’s Teaching & Learning Committee and teaches courses in business communications and career development; she also chairs UMD’s GLBTQIA Commission and coordinates a peer mentoring program for business students.
Dr. Nancy is a member of the Association for Business Communication and the Coalition of Feminist Scholars on the History of Rhetoric and Composition, and is a 2022 recipient of the U of Minnesota system’s Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Award. She is frequently sought as a speaker or consultant based on her expertise in written communication, in the scholarship of teaching and learning, and on issues of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
She earned her PhD in Rhetoric, Writing, and Professional Communication at East Carolina University. She also holds an MPA with an emphasis in executive leadership from Drake University and an MA in English with an emphasis in writing studies from Western Illinois University. Her research interests vary widely, but most recently have focused on teaching and learning scholarship and on Black feminism.
Her previous professional experience also includes work as a journalist, a community educator, an entertainment producer, a clergyperson, and a business owner. She loves travel, coffee, chocolate, music, and reading: all the good things in life!
